Saturated fatty acids – about 93%

Unsaturated fatty acids

  • monounsaturated – oleic acid (Omega-9) – about 6.5%,

Lauric acid

Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid (44-51%) which appears only in coconut milk or breast milk. Lauric acid is responsible for enhancing body's immunity and famous for its highly strong antibacterial, antivirus and antifungal functions. Thanks to lauric acid, coconut oil might be without a doubt defined as a natural antibiotic that does not damage the intestinal flora.

Shelf life

Due to low content of unsaturated fatty acids (oxidizing fatty acids), coconut oil is not prone to going rancid. As the only cold-pressed oil, it has such a long shelf life - it can mature up to 2 years, and even longer if it is kept in a cool and shaded place.

Metabolism
